CBS at the CalABA 36th Annual Western Regional Conference

        

On March 9, 2018, CBS’ Director Dr. Joyce Tu, along with CBS’ Assistant Director Ronald Moreno, Clinical Manager Alex Silva, and behavior consultant Angie Montero presented two original behavior analytic research studies in a poster session, as part of the California Association for Applied Behavior Analysis 36th Annual Western Regional Conference in Santa Clara. The studies are entitled “Teaching Metaphorical Tacts to Individuals Diagnosed with Autism,” and “Teaching Autoclitic Responses to Children Diagnosed with Autism.” CBS is proud of its ongoing contributions to the field of applied behavior analysis, and we are grateful to all study participants.

Welcoming Dr. Shaji Haq

Center for Behavioral Sciences, Inc. is excited to announce the addition of Dr. Shaji Haq to the CBS team! Dr. Haq will serve as CBS’ Clinical Director, effective January 16, 2018. Dr. Haq is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst‒Doctoral (BCBA-D) with a Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Oregon. Dr. Haq earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego, in 2009, his Educational Specialist (Ed.S) degree in School Psychology at California State University, Fresno, in 2012, and he has been a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) since 2012.

Dr. Tu Is an Invited Speaker for Chicago School of Professional Psychology

Dr. Joyce Tu, Ed.D., BCBA-D, Center for Behavioral Sciences’ Director, was invited to speak this past Sunday at the grand opening of the Chicago School of Professional Psychology’s San Diego campus. Dr. Tu’s presentation, entitled, “The Role of Joint Control in Listener Responses and Generative Responding,” highlighted original research by CBS. The research addresses listener behavior and how to generate novel responses in individuals with autism. The talk was attended by graduate students, faculty members and BCBAs from the community.

Dr. Tu Is an Invited Speaker for Pepperdine University

Dr. Joyce Tu, Ed.D., BCBA-D, Director of Center for Behavioral Sciences was an invited lecturer this week, at Pepperdine University’s Irvine Graduate Campus.  Dr. Tu’s presentation was an introduction to applied behavior analysis (ABA) for a class of future marriage and family therapy students, entitled “Effective ABA Programs.”  This provided an overview of ABA and best practices in clinical settings.

CBS Helps Bring Behavioral Science to China

Dr. Joyce Tu, Ed.D, BCBA-D, Director of Center for Behavioral Sciences, traveled to China for the second time this year to share the science of behavior analysis. Dr. Tu traveled to four cities in China within Liaoning and Shanxi, serving as a consultant and lecturer on topics in behavior analysis for over 300 special education teachers. These teachers were part of the Chinese Federation for Disabled People, which is supported by the Ai You Foundation. Currently, Ai You has two of the largest children’s healthcare projects of their kind in the world.

CBS Presents Research and ABA Training in India

On December 8 and 9, 2012, CBS’ Director, Joyce C. Tu, Ed.D, BCBA-D attended the third annual conference of the Association for Behavior Analysis-India, in Kolkata, along with other eminent professionals from overseas and from India.  The program was attended by over 200 participants, including special educators, mental health experts, psychiatrists, academics, and parents of children with autism and other learning disabilities.  Dr. Tu and CBS presented two original studies regarding joint control; as well as an intensive workshop on behavior analytic strategies to develop age-appropriate social skills.
