Dr. Joyce Tu, Ed.D., BCBA-D, Center for Behavioral Sciences’ Director, was invited to speak this past Sunday at the grand opening of the Chicago School of Professional Psychology’s San Diego campus. Dr. Tu’s presentation, entitled, “The Role of Joint Control in Listener Responses and Generative Responding,” highlighted original research by CBS. The research addresses listener behavior and how to generate novel responses in individuals with autism. The talk was attended by graduate students, faculty members and BCBAs from the community.
Dr. Joyce Tu, Ed.D., BCBA-D, Director of Center for Behavioral Sciences was an invited lecturer this week, at Pepperdine University’s Irvine Graduate Campus. Dr. Tu’s presentation was an introduction to applied behavior analysis (ABA) for a class of future marriage and family therapy students, entitled “Effective ABA Programs.” This provided an overview of ABA and best practices in clinical settings.
We are excited to announce that CBS opened a new location in Fontana in October, for staff training only. The location is 13819 Foothill Blvd, Suite K, Fontana, CA 92335. CBS strongly emphasizes staff training and education, and the Inland Training Center is part of that commitment.
Dr. Joyce Tu, Ed.D, BCBA-D, Director of Center for Behavioral Sciences, traveled to China for the second time this year to share the science of behavior analysis. Dr. Tu traveled to four cities in China within Liaoning and Shanxi, serving as a consultant and lecturer on topics in behavior analysis for over 300 special education teachers. These teachers were part of the Chinese Federation for Disabled People, which is supported by the Ai You Foundation. Currently, Ai You has two of the largest children’s healthcare projects of their kind in the world.
CBS’ Director, Dr. Joyce Tu, Ed.D, BCBA-D, traveled to Boston again this month for the B.F. Skinner Foundation’s annual board meeting. Sheila Habarad, Editor-in-Chief of the B.F. Skinner Foundation’s quarterly publication, Operants, interviewed Dr. Tu, along with Dr. Julie Vargas, Bruna Columbo dos Santos, and Monalisa Leao, for the inaugural Operants podcast!
The California Association for Behavior Analysis is hosting its annual 30th Western Regional Conference from Wednesday, February 15th through Saturday, February 18th. This year, our own Dr. Joyce Tu is the Conference Co-chair. In addition, the Center for Behavioral Sciences will present on the topic: Using a Verbal Behavior Approach to Teach Skills to Children with Autism.
On December 8 and 9, 2012, CBS’ Director, Joyce C. Tu, Ed.D, BCBA-D attended the third annual conference of the Association for Behavior Analysis-India, in Kolkata, along with other eminent professionals from overseas and from India. The program was attended by over 200 participants, including special educators, mental health experts, psychiatrists, academics, and parents of children with autism and other learning disabilities. Dr. Tu and CBS presented two original studies regarding joint control; as well as an intensive workshop on behavior analytic strategies to develop age-appropriate social skills.
