On April 9, 2019, CBS Behavior Consultant Vanesa Yip, BCaBA lectured regarding applied behavior analysis (ABA) practices in Arequipa, the second largest city in Peru. The presentation was organized with the assistance of Universidad Católica de San Pablo’s Psychology Department and Instituto Del Sur.
Our presentation was filled to capacity with about 250 attendees, including psychology and education students and professors, as well as ABA professionals and parents—not only from Peru, but also other countries such as Argentina and Chile. This was an eye-opening experience for all of us! Much is needed in Peru in terms of special needs education and ABA treatment, and sadly many schools in Peru have no special education support!
In a question and answer session following our presentation, the audience expressed a great deal of interest in ABA and how to better spread the science of behavior analysis. This is a good start, and we’re thrilled to see ABA catching on!
Universidad Católica San Pablo is a non-profit private higher education institution officially accredited by the Ministry of Education, offering bachelor’s and master’s-level courses and programs. Instituto del Sur is a non-profit technical college, also helping to develop social programs to improve local living standards for the poor.
With increasing recognition of ABA as an effective treatment for autism and other disorders, the need for ABA training is mounting worldwide. This latest presentation is part of our ongoing initiative to help disseminate behavioral analytic science across borders—including ventures to China, Bahrain, India and Romania (which you can read about in our blog).
